Lesly’s experience as a single mother and labor organizer has given her a deep understanding of the issues facing working families in our community — from the cost of housing, and healthcare, to making sure we have strong schools for all children. In the legislature, Lesly will fight for us and deliver real results for hard working families.

Lesly believes that an investment in education is an investment in our shared future. As the daughter and sister of educators, an advocate for education, and a mother of four, Lesly has witnessed the transformational impact a quality education can have on bettering peoples’ lives. Lesly is committed to:<ul><li>Championing accessible, adequately funded public schools.</li><li>Investing in early childhood education and affordable post secondary education, so that students have the opportunity to succeed from birth to graduation, and beyond.</li><li>Ensuring safe, inclusive learning environments for all students.</li><li>Investments in additional opportunities in higher learning with university studies and amplifying CTE opportunities and apprenticeship programs within K-12 institutions.</li></ul>

As a single mother who sent her 4 children to Woodburn public schools, the safety of our schools and neighborhoods is a top priority for Lesly. She knows our police officers are being asked to do too much–&nbsp; without the resources necessary to carry out their jobs of keeping us safe. Lesly will:<ul><li>Fund our public safety departments.</li><li>Fight to expand mental/behavioral health services in our communities and across Oregon.</li><li>Bring law enforcement, community members, and local officials together to ensure we are investing resources in ways that make our neighborhoods safer and get people the help they need.</li></ul>

Having worked as a union organizer for over a decade, Lesly has seen how unions can empower workers and level the playing field. She knows that all of Oregon does better when workers can make their voices heard and have their needs met. That’s why she’s advocating for:<ul><li>Fair wages and safe working conditions, because no one should be made to feel unsafe in their workplace.</li><li>A strong voice for Oregon workers to ensure a level playing field between management and employees.</li><li>More opportunities for workforce training.</li></ul>

The rising cost of healthcare is impacting all of us. Too many Oregonians are one medical emergency away from bankruptcy. In the state house, Lesly will:<ul><li>Stand up to Big Pharma to bring down the cost of health insurance and prescriptions.&nbsp;</li><li>Advocate for all people to have access to quality, affordable healthcare in their own communities.</li><li>Fight to protect abortion access, IVF, and the right to choose in Oregon.</li></ul>

Her father worked as a landscaper and laborer. Her mother worked numerous jobs, including as an instructional assistant in public schools, cleaning houses, babysitting, and at the public library. Nothing came easy, but a loving family and the opportunity to attend strong public schools made all the difference for Lesly.&nbsp;Her parents showed her the value of working hard, never giving up, and getting a quality education. It’s why Lesly always fights for better working conditions, opportunities, and education for our community.Today, Lesly advocates for workers so they can receive better working conditions&nbsp;and earn higher wages. She has fought for school bus drivers, custodians, instructional assistants, teachers, social workers, school psychologists, and hospital workers to be treated with the dignity and respect we all deserve in the workplace.Lesly is committed to using her experiences as a working mom of four and a labor representative to build a stronger economy that helps families get ahead. She is running for state representative to bring down costs for families and protect workers' rights, expand access to affordable housing, solve our homelessness and mental health crisis, fully fund our public schools, make sure all communities have clean drinking water, and defend women's rights to make their own private medical decisions.
